Rumor has it that squatted trucks are about to be illegal in Alabama starting October 1st 2025. Let’s clear that up.
✅ A bill was introduced earlier this year to ban squatted trucks. It even passed the House of Representatives.
❌ But here’s the truth: the bill died in the Senate. That means NO NEW LAW goes into effect October 1st 2025.
Rep. Ron Bolton clarified in a statement:
“A gentleman in south Alabama posted on Facebook that it was, but this is incorrect. He provided a really good description of my bill from last session; however, the bill died on the Senate calendar the last session day. I’ve re-filed it as HB35 for next session.” (Wiregrass Daily News)
⚠️ What this means for drivers:
– Squatted trucks are not illegal, yet.
– Rep. Bolton has already re-filed the bill for next year.
– The safety concerns are real: headlights point upward, blinding oncoming drivers, while raised fronts reduce handling, visibility and can cause considerable more damage to other vehicles when involved in a collision.
👉 So while it’s not law today, truck owners may want to fix their squat preemptively before it does become law, or before safety issues cause an accident.
Bottom line: It’s a rumor that squatted trucks are banned October 1st. But with HB35 already filed, expect this debate to be back in the legislation session for 2026.
